Greek eGrocery Q3’20

Greek Online Grocery grew with an impressive 183% rate in the third quarter of 2020 vs 2019, while September 2020 increased its Sales Value with 174% vs September 2019, according to aggregated data collected on Convert Group’s eRetail Audit platform and calculations from our Market Analysis team.

Key Insights Overview:

  • Online Grocery is still growing after Covid-19 first Period (March & April), stabilizing at +174 Y-o-Y growth in September 2020 (multiple times higher growth rate that the beginning of the year)
  • Frozen Food was the mega category with the highest growth rate in Sales Value in Q2 & Q3 2020:
    Q2: Frozen Food: +305% / Market: +193%

    Q3: Frozen Food: +254% / Market: +183%
  • 2,7% was the average conversion rate in Q3’20, higher than Q1 ’20 (2,4%) and Q2 ’20 (2,1%) revealing the preparedness of the retailers in terms of delivery times and availability issues during Q3 ’20.
  • Daily Needs (Food) Categories significantly increased their Basket Penetration during COVID-19 first Period (March & April) but managed to maintain the high presence in consumers baskets also in Q3. Especially categories like Fresh Packaged Cheese, High Pasteurization Milk for Adults, Cheese Slices, Wheat, Strained Yoghurt, etc.
