Greek eGrocery S1’20

Greek Online Grocery grew with an impressive 150% rate in the first semester of 2020 vs 2019, with sales value being 21% higher than the total annual sales of 2019, according to aggregated data collected on Convert Group’s eRetail Audit platform and calculations from our Market Analysis team.

Key Insights Overview:

  • Estimation for S1’20 Online Grocery Turnover: €56,3M with +150% growth over a year ago (YA)
  • Online Grocery is still growing after Covid-19 Period, stabilizing at +170 Y-o-Y growth in June 2020 (multiple times higher growth rate that the beginning of the year)
  • +307% was the uplift of Online Grocery sales on March 2020 with Cleaning Products & Household having the most significant Y-o-Y growth (+407%) [see more about every category segment in the report]
  • +9€ was the average basket in S1’20 vs S1’19. However, in Q2’20, there was a -5,5€ decrease in the average basket value vs Q1’20
  • High Pasteurisation Milk, Yoghurt & Cheese Categories not only increased their basket penetration during Covid-19 but also achieved to maintain their increased penetration in May & June
  • Orders that came from Organic Search skyrocketed in March & April. 33% of transactions came from Google Organic in April 2020 (almost double percentage vs January 2020)
